Michael Bajko and Jane Scott will work with 5 local youth from each of the Waimate district schools.  They will teach them carving techniques on blocks of Oamaru stone. The students, along with the teachers from each school, will come up with their own logo to go on the stone then the number of KM will be carved into the stone along with the name of the school with the guidance and advice from Michael Bajko and Jane Scott who is a professional artist.

This project will give the young people something to do and build their connection with the town and the Waimate trail. The artwork will show carving techniques symbolising the history of their school area. The finished works will be installed along the trail every Km so people can see how far they have gone or how far they must go.    

The carved stones will represent each school in our district.
