Our team

The Waimate2gether Committee oversees the strategies and governance of our Community Led Development Programme.

Each committee member will help develop our community plan.

Our committee members provide Waimate2gether with input from across the Waimate district. Representation includes people from community groups, council, the Department of Internal Affairs, the education sector, faith-based groups, iwi, government, local business, retirees, rural and youth.  And they're all Waimate locals!

Following on from the numerous successful projects that waimate2gether have completed, Pro-Ject Waimate has become the legal body representing their projects. All intellectual property that waimate2gether have developed now resides with Pro-Ject Waimate incorporated, a not for profit organisation.

I have served six years as a Waimate District Councillor. Currently, I am a community representative for the council’s Economic Development Committee. I have been involved in the motor industry most of my life, both as a business owner and mechanic. I am currently self-employed as a picture framer. My interests lie in sport, motorcycles and fishing.

Glenda Begg

I LOVE Waimate. I see it as a paradise for those of us who live here. I’m aware of our shortcomings and weaknesses, but also very aware of our strengths.

John and I moved to Waimate 26 years ago and have loved raising our now adult children in this great environment. Our son and daughter are very happy to come back to Waimate at any opportunity and always want to know what new things are happening in our community.

I’m passionate about Waimate district and thrilled to be part of the team helping our community grow.

I’ve lived in Waimate for 15 years, and my work has been in publicity and event organisation for community groups and private enterprise.

I’m looking forward to connecting local people together to reach their visions and aspirations, building on our strengths, and celebrating community achievements.

I’m thrilled to be working with young and old to get sustainable projects big and small off the ground and running for Waimate.

Rob Smith - Co Treasurer

I have lived in Waimate since 1986. I am past treasurer for a number of community groups and past board member of Mid and South Canterbury Community Trust. I have been on various boards for the past thirty years. I own my own business and enjoy working in the community as part of the pay-back for the support I get for my business.

Waimate is a wonderful friendly community. With the help, support and resources from the Department of Internal Affairs my aim is to guide the completion of community projects under the Waimate2gether banner. Which in return will confirm to residents that Waimate is a great place to live, where they feel connected to their neighbours and part of something worthwhile.
