Please respect all trail notices - we put them out for your safety. This is especially relevant for our sections that are still under construction. Some of the trail passes through private land, for your safety and the continued support of the community please respect their rules, including No Dogs / Horses / Motorbike signs, Truck Crossings etc.
Current Trail Status
Stage 1 - Waimate to Waihao Forks
You’re welcome to take a ride, walk or run along the open sections of the Waimate Trail - from Waimate out to the Arno Hall.
It’s approximately 10km one way.
Public toilets are in Waimate.
You can start in Waimate, or at the carparks at Studholme Bush Reserve or Arno Hall.
Please respect all signage and stay on the track. No vehicles or animals where stated on the signs.
The track runs through working farms and they are absolute legends for letting us go through. We’re working really hard to deliver a track for everyone to enjoy.
The rest of Stage 1 (Arno Hall to Waihao Forks (approx 3.6 Km)) is under construction.

Waimate to Studholme Bush Carpark (3.5 Km)
Start on Queen Street. Follow signs down Queen Street onto Mt John Road.
Studholme Bush Carpark to End of Studholme Bush (2.5 Km)
Rideable, but there are plans for track upgrade. Hard grass track surface along old railway.
End of Studholme Bush to Kapua Swamp (1.8 Km)
Completed - and open for use.
Kapua Swamp to Arno Hall (1.8 Km)
Completed - and open for use.
Arno Hall to Waihao Forks (3.6 Km)
Not open to the public yet. Still under construction.
